Additional information

The 100mm, 30-troy-ounce gold coin was part of the Royal Mint's "Big Coin" series launched in 2017, a direct response to the Royal Canadian Mint's oversized bullion program that had drawn significant collector attention since 2007. The fifth portrait of Elizabeth II, by Jody Clark, had only entered circulation two years prior — making this among the earliest large-format pieces to carry it.

Spink's BGJ1 designation places it as the first catalogued entry in the series. Mintage figures were extremely limited, with pieces largely acquired by institutional buyers and sovereign wealth funds rather than private collectors.
