Obverse description Central field depicts the official emblem of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games — a stylized figure skater rendered in calligraphic form above the inscription 'BEIJING 2022' — flanked by the interlocked Olympic rings below. The lower portion of the field features a colorized panoramic rendering of the Great Wall of China set against a decorative snowflake-patterned background. The circular legend 中华人民共和国 (People's Republic of China) runs along the upper rim, with the year of issue '2022' inscribed at the base.

Reverse description Central field displays a vibrant colorized paper-cut style composition depicting a child figure in traditional costume skiing downhill, surrounded by decorative snowflake motifs and stylized floral elements characteristic of Chinese folk art. The design is framed within a traditional lattice window border rendered in gold relief, evoking classical Chinese architectural ornamentation. Scattered decorative elements including golden fruits appear in the lower foreground. The denomination '80元' is inscribed to the right of the central vignette, while the legend 第24届冬季奥林匹克运动会 (24th Olympic Winter Games) arcs along the upper rim.

Additional information

Issued to mark the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, which made China the first country to host both a Summer and Winter Games — Beijing having previously held the 2008 Summer Olympics. The People's Bank of China has produced commemorative Olympic issues since 1980, but the color-printed gold series introduced for the 2022 games represented a technical departure, applying fine enamel or ink overlay directly to .999 gold blanks prior to striking.

Mintage for individual denominations in this series was capped at 20,000 pieces.
