| Obverse description | St. Mark, enthroned and seated to left, presents a staff surmounted by a cross and pennant to the kneeling Doge Nicolò da Ponte, who faces right in an attitude of devotion. The composition follows the traditional investiture type employed by the Venetian mint throughout the later sixteenth century. The mintmaster's initials appear in the exergue below the figures. The encircling Latin legend identifies the Doge by name and title. |
