Obverse description Central field occupied by the crowned Portuguese royal shield, displaying the five quinas and the bordure of castles, surmounted by a royal crown rendered in high relief. The denomination '80' appears to the left of the shield and the date flanks the crown, with one or two decorative flowers or mint marks positioned in the field to either side. The peripheral legend, reading clockwise in Latin characters, identifies the sovereign and his titles. The overall design follows the milled coinage style of the late 17th-century Portuguese colonial mints.
