| Obverse description | The obverse displays the crowned royal cypher of Queen Maria I of Portugal at center, formed by an interlaced 'XL' monogram surmounted by a royal crown with elaborate floral and beaded ornamentation. A recessed rectangular countermark bearing the Portuguese royal arms is applied at center over the original host coin's design. Four small trefoil rosettes are positioned symmetrically around the central device within a continuous inner bead border. The circular legend reading MARIA·D·G·P·ET·BRASILIÆ·REGINA is arranged around the periphery, with the date 1790 displayed at the base between small floral stops, all enclosed within a finely milled outer border. |
