| Obverse description | The crowned Portuguese royal arms, surmounted by a five-arched crown, occupy the central field. The denomination '80' appears to the left of the shield and a pellet or small ornament to the right, with the date '17 49' split across the upper field flanking the crown. The circumferential legend runs in Latin around the periphery of the coin, separated by pellets, within a beaded border. The shield displays the traditional Portuguese escutcheon with the five quinas and the bordure of castles, rendered in a bold, slightly archaic die-engraving style characteristic of mid-18th-century Lisbon Mint production. |
