Croatia's final paper banknote series, issued just before the country adopted the euro on 1 January 2023, made this 80 Kuna note something of an anomaly — printed for a denomination and a currency that would cease to be legal tender almost immediately. The 80 Kuna face value was itself unusual, introduced specifically to mark the 80th anniversary of the Croatian kuna's re-establishment in 1994, making it a commemorative issue dressed as circulating currency.

The watermark-only security specification is notably sparse for a 21st-century issue, reflecting its intended role as a collector piece rather than a note expected to survive heavy handling.
