Comments

Pupping is a small parish municipality in Upper Austria, just west of Eferding, and its decision to issue emergency currency in 1920 reflects how thoroughly the postwar collapse of the Habsburg monetary system forced even the smallest administrative units to print their own provisional notes. The Eferding printer Lanz handled several of these local Notgeld commissions in the immediate district, which accounts for the shared production quality across neighboring issues.

The 80 Heller denomination is slightly unusual — most Austrian municipal Notgeld clustered around rounder values. Whether this reflects a specific local wage or transaction need is unrecorded.
