Lend is a small market town in the Salzburg Lungau corridor, and this 80 Heller note is a product of Austria's postwar Notgeld wave — the brief, chaotic period when municipal authorities printed their own emergency money because the central supply had collapsed and small-denomination coins had effectively vanished from circulation. R. Kiesel was a Salzburg-based printer who handled a number of these regional issues, keeping production local and costs down.
The 80 Heller denomination is an odd one, chosen not for monetary elegance but to fill a specific gap in everyday transactions that rounder figures couldn't cover.
