Obverse description Displayed double-headed imperial eagle with outstretched wings occupies the central field within a beaded inner circle, the civic arms of Groningen — a shield bearing a cross over a pot — superimposed on the eagle's breast. The design is rendered in the robust, somewhat crude hammered style typical of early seventeenth-century Dutch municipal coinage. A continuous Latin legend in capital letters runs along the outer border between the inner circle and the coin's irregular edge.
