| Obverse description | Crowned and armored bust of Christian IV facing right, wearing a closed royal crown and draped in elaborate plate armor with decorated pauldrons. Beneath the bust, the Danish royal arms are displayed on a quartered shield featuring three passant lions accompanied by hearts, within a beaded inner circle. The Latin legend encircles the portrait, divided on either side of the effigy, reading CHRISTIA·4·D·G·DAN·N·V·G·R·, identifying the king as Christian IV, by the grace of God King of Denmark, Norway, of the Wends and the Goths. The coin exhibits the robust, slightly naive engraving style characteristic of hammered provincial coinage of the early seventeenth century. |

| Reverse description | The figure of Fortuna stands full-length in the central field, depicted nude with flowing hair and a billowing sail or veil caught behind her, balanced upon a globe or crescent, with the date 16 42 divided across the lower field on either side of her feet. The encircling Latin legend RE·MAI·MO·PROVINCIALIS·8·S·L reads as an abbreviation for Moneta Provincialis, identifying this as a provincial coinage struck at the Glückstadt mint, with the denomination 8 Skilling Lybsk indicated. A beaded inner circle frames the central device, and the outer rim bears a toothed or beaded border consistent with the hammered technique. The rendering of Fortuna is in the lively, somewhat provincial Baroque manner typical of Glückstadt mint production of the 1640s. |
