A cross with elongated arms lies behind the shields, its extremities reaching toward the rim and dividing the surrounding Latin legend into four segments. From the upper shields hangs a decorative necklace-style band suspending the pendant badge of the Order of the Elephant. The denomination and date appear in the legend along the rim, with the mintmark positioned to the right of the crown at the commencement of the value inscription. |

Frederik III's reign saw Denmark fundamentally restructured: his 1660 coup against the nobility established hereditary absolute monarchy, and the subsequent tax reforms created immediate demand for small-denomination silver coinage to service a newly centralized fiscal apparatus. The 8 skilling issues of the late 1660s were struck at Copenhagen under that pressure.
KM#305.1 distinguishes this variety from the closely related 305.2, differentiated by die details that continue to occupy Danish numismatic literature without full resolution on exact production sequences.
