| Obverse description | Crowned royal cypher of Christian VII — an interlaced script 'C7' monogram — occupies the central field beneath a large ornate crown. The circular legend reads D·G·DAN·NOR·V·G·REX, denoting the king's title by the grace of God over Denmark, Norway, the Vandals, and the Goths. The monogram is boldly rendered in relief, with the interlinked letterforms characteristic of late eighteenth-century Danish coinage. |

| Additional information |
Christian VII was nominally king throughout this issue's production, but Denmark was effectively governed by others — first by the reforming minister Johann Friedrich Struensee, who was arrested, tortured, and executed in 1772, and then by the conservative faction that reversed many of his policies. The coins of 1773–1783 were struck under the regency influence of the Dowager Queen Juliane Marie and her allies, a period of political retrenchment following one of Scandinavia's most dramatic court coups.
The "Dansk" distinction in the denomination marks this as part of the Danish monetary standardization effort separating Danish from Norwegian valuations within the dual monarchy.
