| Obverse description | Central device depicts a pomegranate in full bloom, rendered with a crosshatched surface and a crown of sepals at its apex, borne on a naturalistic stem with two flanking leaves. The denomination numeral '8' appears to the left of the device and the mintmark 'R' to the right, both in the field. The circular legend NUEVA GRANADA · J·F runs around the periphery, with the assayer initials J·F positioned at the lower portion of the coin. The overall style is characteristic of early republican coinage from the Popayán Mint, combining Neoclassical engraving with Ibero-American heraldic tradition. |
