A circular beaded border frames the periphery, enclosing the legend RAFAEL CARRERA PE DE LA Ra DE GUATEMALA. The Salvadoran Type IV countermark — a small letter R within a beaded circle of approximately 5 mm diameter — is applied in the lower right portion of the obverse field, punched directly onto the host coin's design.

The denomination UN PESO appears at the base, flanked by decorative ornaments, with the assay notation 10·20· at lower left and the host date 1859 at lower right, all within a beaded border.
