Obverse description Bare-headed left-facing bust of Rafael Carrera occupying the central field of the host coin, with naturalistic hair rendered in low relief. A circular beaded border frames the periphery, enclosing the legend RAFAEL CARRERA PE DE LA Ra DE GUATEMALA. The Salvadoran Type IV countermark — a small letter R within a beaded circle of approximately 5 mm diameter — is applied in the lower right portion of the obverse field, punched directly onto the host coin's design.
