| Reverse description | The reverse of the host cob coin displays a boldly struck cross pattee dividing the field into four quadrants, each containing elements of the castles-and-lions design typical of Spanish colonial coinage. The denomination numeral '8' is clearly visible in the upper-left quadrant, while the assayer's initials 'SL' appear in a central horizontal register and the date numerals '71' (partial, from the underlying host coin date) are struck in the lower register, all contained within recessed rectangular compartments formed by the cross. The irregular cob flan shows characteristic rough, sheared edges and uneven surface relief consistent with hammered macuquina production. |
