| 正面描述 | Type I Costa Rican countermark consisting of a radiant six-pointed star punched within a plain incuse circle of approximately 7 mm diameter, applied over the host coin's obverse. The host coin is a Spanish colonial 8 Reales struck at the Mexico City Mint, bearing the right-facing draped and armored bust of King Carlos IV. The countermark is typically found in the field to the left or right of the royal effigy. A central round hole, characteristic of Costa Rican emergency monetary reform practice, pierces the coin. The host coin's obverse legend, partially preserved, reads CAROLUS IIII DEI GRATIA with the date 1808. |

| 背面描述 | Reverse of the host Spanish colonial 8 Reales, displaying the Hispanic royal arms in the characteristic pillars-of-Hercules design. Two crowned Pillars of Hercules flank a crowned shield quartered with the castles of Castile and lions of León, with a pomegranate in base and three fleurs-de-lis on an escutcheon in the center. The central round hole partially disrupts the design. The reverse legend, partially legible, reads HISPAN ET IND REX with the mint mark Mo, denomination 8R, and assayer initials TH identifying the Mexico City Mint output. |
