| Mô tả mặt trước | Type I Costa Rican countermark applied to the obverse of a Spanish colonial 8 Reales host coin: a radiant six-pointed star punched within a recessed circular indent approximately 7 mm in diameter, struck upon the lower truncation of the host coin's effigy. The host coin displays the laureate and draped bust of Ferdinand VII facing right, with the legend FERDIN·VII· to the left and DEI·GRATIA· to the right, and the date 1821 in the exergue. A centrally placed round hole, characteristic of the Costa Rican emergency currency issue, pierces the field below the portrait. The overall surface exhibits rich iridescent toning consistent with age. |

The surrounding legend reads ·HISPAN· / ·IND·ET·REX· with the denomination numeral 8 and assayer initials to the left. A round hole, corresponding to that on the obverse, is pierced through the lower left quadrant of the shield, partially obscuring the design. The field shows characteristic wear and iridescent toning consistent with a circulated colonial issue. |
