Reverse description Central device features a Jerusalem cross with elaborate flared terminals, set within a quadrilobe tressure. The four quadrants of the tressure enclose alternating castles and lions, emblems of Castile and León respectively. A beaded inner circle separates the central device from the surrounding Latin legend, which commences at twelve o'clock. The date 1617 appears within the legend. The reverse, like the obverse, exhibits the characteristic irregular form of hammered cob coinage from the Potosí mint.
