Reverse description The reverse presents a large radiating sun design composed of alternating straight and flame-like rays emanating from a central point, representing the Phrygian cap or sunburst motif associated with liberty and republican ideals. At the lower arc of the central device, the digits 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 0 are arranged in sequence, serving as a typographic specimen or punch-trial function characteristic of pattern coinage of this period. Small star and dot ornaments appear to the right of the field. The entire design is enclosed within a reeded border, and the reverse bears no date, consistent with its identification as a die-trial or pattern piece.
