| Obverse description | Central device depicts the Mexican republican eagle in profile, perched upon a cactus rising from a rocky outcrop amid water, with a serpent clutched in its beak — the classic national emblem of the newly established Mexican Republic. The eagle faces left with wings partially spread, rendered in bold relief with detailed feather work. A laurel and oak wreath frames the lower portion of the design. The circular legend REPUBLICA MEXICANA arcs along the upper periphery in Latin capitals, contained within a finely reeded border. The overall composition reflects the nascent republican iconography adopted following Mexican independence. |
