Obverse description Oval insurgent countermark applied to the host coin's obverse, featuring the initials J.M.L. (José María Liceaga) arranged above the letters D.S., surmounted by a banner-draped cross with crossed olive branches below, all contained within a beaded oval punch. The countermark is struck with moderate depth into the field of the host coin, partially obscuring the original design. Remnants of the host coin's legend are visible around the periphery, reading partially as TEGAS MONETA. The overall strike quality of the countermark is typical of insurgent emergency coinage of the Mexican War of Independence period.
