| Beschrijving voorzijde | The obverse of this Peruvian host coin depicts two standing allegorical female figures flanking a central column. The figure to the left holds a sword upright in her right hand and a balance scale in her left, representing Justice; the figure to the right holds an olive branch, symbolizing Liberty or Peace. Both figures are rendered in neoclassical style with flowing robes. The circular legend reads POR LA VIRTUD Y LA JUSTICIA, meaning 'For Virtue and Justice.' Prominently applied over the central column is the circular Philippine countermark of Isabella II, consisting of a crowned monogram within a beaded border, struck between 1834 and 1837 to authorize the host coin for circulation in the Philippines. |
