| Beschrijving keerzijde | The reverse displays the crowned Spanish royal coat of arms at center, featuring the quartered shield with castles of Castile and lions of León, with a small central escutcheon, all surmounted by an elaborate royal crown. Flanking the shield are the Pillars of Hercules, each wound with a banner bearing the motto PLVS VLTRA. The circular legend reads HISPAN ET IND REX, with the Mexico City mint mark Mo, the denomination 8R, and assayers' initials J·J· completing the peripheral inscription. The entire design is executed in the bold relief characteristic of Mexican milled coinage of the early nineteenth century. |
