Prominently applied over the king's neck and lower bust is the oval Isabella II countermark, depicting the crowned royal cypher of the Spanish queen within a beaded border, validating the coin for circulation in the Philippines. The toothed border of the host coin is well defined, and scattered assayer and mint marks are visible in the field. |

The motto PLUS VLTRA appears on the ribbons adorning the Pillars of Hercules. A toothed border frames the entire design. The reverse shows no countermark, retaining its original milled appearance in full. |
