| Descrizione del dritto | The obverse displays the design of the host Mexican 8 Reales of 1824, struck at the Mexico City Mint. At center, a radiant Phrygian cap surmounts a central medallion bearing the crowned eagle devouring a serpent — the arms of the early Mexican Republic — set within a sunburst of alternating straight and wavy rays that radiates to the inner border. The peripheral legend reads: 8R • M • 1824 • J • M • 10Ds • 20Gs, denoting denomination, mint, date, assayers' initials, fineness, and grain weight. A Philippine countermark of Isabella II (Y • II •) was applied to the host coin, visible as a small oval or circular punch in the field, validating its currency in the Philippine archipelago during the period 1834–1837. The coin is struck in milled silver with a reeded edge. |
