Obverse description The obverse of the host Peruvian 8 Reales coin features a standing allegorical figure of Liberty facing left, helmeted and draped, holding a tall spear in her right hand and a large oval shield in her left. The surrounding legend reads FIRME Y FELIZ POR LA UNIÓN • LIBERTAD. Applied prominently to the shield of the Liberty figure is the Philippine countermark of Queen Isabella II, consisting of a crowned royal cipher within a beaded oval punch, validating the host coin for circulation in the Philippines.
