Obverse description Central crowned royal arms flanked by the Pillars of Hercules, each surmounted by a crown, the whole executed in a somewhat crude provincial style characteristic of emergency royalist coinage. The crowned shield bears the castles and lions of the Spanish royal arms. The encircling legend in Latin reads FERDINANDUS VII DEI GRATIA, with the denomination 8R and date appearing in the lower field. The overall design follows the established pillar dollar tradition but with noticeably rougher engraving reflecting the provisional nature of the issue.
