| Obverse description | Applied oval countermark bearing the crowned monogram 'MS' (for Manuel Salcedo, Royalist governor of Texas) struck over the obverse field of the host coin. Beneath the countermark, the underlying design of the host 8 Reales is partially visible, including elements of the crowned royal arms of Spain flanked by the Pillars of Hercules with scrolls, as characteristic of the Mexico City Mint bust coinage of Fernando VII. The countermark is crisply impressed and sits prominently at the center of the coin. |

| Reverse description | The reverse retains the full or partial design of the host Mexico City Mint 8 Reales of Fernando VII, displaying the crowned royal shield of Spain bearing the quartered arms of Castile, León, Aragón, and Granada, flanked by the crowned Pillars of Hercules with 'PLUS VLTRA' on scrolls. The surrounding legend, partially legible, reads HISPAN ET IND REX with the assayer initials and mint mark of the Mexico City Mint (Mo). The field shows typical circulation wear consistent with the host coin's period of use prior to countermarking. |
