| Obverse description | Laureate and draped bust of Ferdinand VII facing right, rendered in the neoclassical style standard to late Spanish colonial milled coinage. The royal effigy is set within a beaded inner border, with the monarch's name and royal title forming a circular legend around the periphery of the field. The date appears within the legend. A small number of 8 Reales of the Peruvian Republic (KM#136) were directly overstruck with colonial dies of Ferdinand VII when Royalist forces under General Canterac recaptured Lima in 1824; these overstruck pieces are catalogued as KM#117.3. |
