Reverse description Central quartered arms of Castile and León, comprising castles and lions in the four quarters with the Bourbon escutcheon of fleurs-de-lis on an oval inescutcheon at centre, surmounted by the Spanish royal crown. Flanking the shield are the two Pillars of Hercules, each entwined with a ribbon bearing the motto PLUS ULTRA. The circular Latin legend HISPAN · ET IND · REX reads around the periphery, with the mint mark ME, assayer initials J·P, and denomination 8R positioned to the left of the shield. A beaded border frames the design.
