At the centre, the inscription MANILA appears in a single bold line of Roman capitals, with the date 1828. directly beneath, separated by a period. The original reverse design of the host Peruvian 8 Reales is largely obliterated by the deep application of the Manila countermark. The overall presentation is stark and utilitarian, consistent with the emergency monetary purpose of the issue. |
