| Beschrijving keerzijde | The reverse features the crowned Royal Arms of Spain at centre, quartered with the castles of Castile and the lions of León, with a small escutcheon of the French royal house (Bourbon) at the fess point, all enclosed within a shield of Spanish form. Flanking the shield are the two Pillars of Hercules, each wound with a banner bearing the motto PLUS VLTRA, symbolising Spanish dominion beyond the Straits of Gibraltar. The peripheral legend HISPAN · ET IND · REX proclaims the sovereign as King of Spain and the Indies, while the mint mark Mo, denomination 8R, and assayer initials T·H appear to the left of the design. The entire composition is encircled by a finely toothed border consistent with milled Spanish colonial coinage. |
