Reverse description The reverse displays the original design of the Mexican Republic 8 Reales host coin struck at the Durango mint in 1824. At center, a Mexican eagle — the national emblem — is depicted perched in left profile atop a cactus rising from a rocky outcrop surrounded by water, devouring a serpent clasped in its beak and talon. The eagle is rendered with finely detailed feathering and outstretched wings. Below the central device, a wreath of oak and laurel branches frames the base of the composition. The arc legend 'REPUBLICA MEXICANA' curves along the upper periphery in bold Latin characters, confirming the host coin's republican origin prior to the Philippine countermarking.
