The countermark is struck onto the host coin's obverse field, partially obliterating the original design elements of the Mexican 8 Reales. Remnants of the host coin's peripheral legend remain visible around the countermark. The crowned arms display the characteristic castles and lions of the Castilian-Leonese escutcheon, as used during the reign of Ferdinand VII. |
