| Obverse description | Central cross pattée (Cruz Potenzada) divides the field into four quarters alternately bearing the castles of Castile and the lions of León, enclosed within a partial Gothic tressure. Flanking the cross are the mint mark and assayer's initial. The denomination numeral '8' appears above the cross, and a three-digit date is struck below, all enclosed within a roped (cordoncillo) inner border. The surrounding legend bearing the king's name and titles runs along the coin's irregular cob-style periphery. |
