| Reverse description | The reverse displays the characteristic Spanish colonial cob-type cross design, featuring a bold floriated cross with castle and lion emblems alternating in the four quadrants, all contained within a beaded tressure border. The cross is boldly struck though partially off-flan at the edges, as is typical of macuquina (cob) coinage of this period. The irregular planchet, produced by cutting a slug from a silver bar, results in the characteristic amorphous outline of the flan. A small plug or hole is visible at the lower right, consistent with the countermark host piece. |
