| Opis awersu | Central field dominated by the quartered royal arms of Spain surmounted by a large imperial crown, the shield displaying the castles of Castile, lions of León, fleurs-de-lis of the Bourbon dynasty, and the diagonal stripes of Aragon, all within an elaborate heraldic composition. To the left of the shield appears the mint mark 'S' for Seville and the denomination numeral '8', while to the right the assayer initials 'PA' are clearly struck. The circular legend PHILIPPUS V D G runs around the periphery, interrupted by small rosette ornaments at intervals. The entire design is bordered by a milled edge with a raised inner rim. The style is characteristic of the early Bourbon milled coinage introduced under Philip V. |
