Obverse description Central field dominated by the crowned quartered royal arms of Spain, displaying the castles of Castile and lions of León in the principal quarters, with the escutcheon of Anjou (fleur-de-lis) at the inescutcheon, surmounted by a large ornate royal crown. The denomination numeral 8 appears to the right of the shield and the mintmark S (Seville) with assayer initial P to the left, flanked by six-pointed rosette stops. The circular Latin legend PHILIPPVS V D G R is distributed around the periphery, separated by rosette ornaments, reading from upper right downward on both sides.
