Obverse description Central quartered royal arms of Spain — featuring castles of Castile, lions of León, the diagonal bars of Aragon, and the pomegranate of Granada — surmounted by a large ornate crown with floral finials. The mint mark 'S' and assayer mark 'M' appear to the left and right of the shield respectively, flanking the denomination expressed as 'R' and '8' on either side of the shield. The surrounding circular legend reads PHILIPPVS V DEI GRAT, separated by quatrefoil ornaments, in an outer beaded border.
