Obverse description Central crowned quartered shield of the Spanish royal arms, displaying castles and lions in the traditional Castile-León arrangement, surrounded by a partial circular legend in the field. The shield is surmounted by the royal crown. The coin exhibits the characteristic irregular flan shape typical of early 18th-century Spanish cob (macuquina) coinage, with portions of the legend visible around the periphery. Mint mark and assayer initial appear to the left of the shield.

The denomination numeral VIII and the date appear partially visible in the legend around the periphery. The flan is irregular, as is typical of cob coinage struck at the Seville mint during this period, with portions of the surrounding legend and pellet border clipped at the edges.
