Felipe V's early reign saw the Madrid mint operating under severe strain during the War of the Spanish Succession, with Archduke Charles's rival claim to the throne making every loyalist institution a political statement. Madrid itself was briefly occupied by Allied forces in 1706, and mint production during these years was erratic — which accounts for the inconsistency in planchet quality and striking pressure seen across surviving examples of this type.
Cal#671 covers a six-year window precisely because output was too irregular to assign clean annual attributions.
