Obverse description The royal arms of the Spanish Crown displayed as a quartered shield occupying the central field, with the castles of Castile and the lions of León alternating in the quarters. The mint mark 'Mo' and assayer's initial appear to the left of the shield, with the denomination numeral partially visible. A partial circular legend reading 'PHILIPVS V DEI G' surrounds the design, characteristic of the cob (macuquina) coinage struck at the Mexico City Mint during the reign of Felipe V. The flan is irregular in shape, as typical of hand-struck cob coinage of the period.
