Obverse lettering PHILIPPVS
Reverse description Two crowned Pillars of Hercules flanking a central panel divided by a horizontal wave line, with the denomination numeral 8 displayed prominently above between the pillars. The left pillar bears the mint mark L and assayer initial M, while the right pillar shows the assayer initial L; the legend PLV·SVL·TRA, an abbreviation of the Spanish imperial motto PLVS VLTRA, is distributed across the panels between the pillars. Wavy lines below the central divide represent the seas, and a partial border of pellets frames the design, all typical of the Lima cob series struck under Felipe V.
