Obverse description Host coin of the Republic of Nueva Granada (Colombia), featuring a condor displayed above crossed cornucopia and fasces, with the national legend encircling the design. Applied over the host coin's obverse is a circular Paraguayan countermark (known as the 'Sello de Hacienda') depicting a seated lion supporting a Liberty cap on a staff, with the countermark date 1868 divided by the staff. The original host coin date 1839 and mint assayer initials RS are visible in the field. The countermark was applied by Paraguayan authorities to validate the coin for domestic circulation.
