Obverse description The obverse of the host coin displays the laureate and draped bust of Ferdinand VII facing right, with the legend FERDIN · VII · DEI · GRATIA surrounding the effigy. The date 1810 appears in the lower exergue. Superimposed upon the bust are two insurgent countermarks: the Chilpanzingo Type A mark, typically a six-pointed star or sunburst device, and the Morelos Type A mark, generally a monogram or symbolic device, both applied by revolutionary forces during the Mexican War of Independence to validate or repurpose royalist coinage.
