| Obverse description | Centrally positioned cross of Jerusalem with flared terminals divides the field into four quarters, each alternately bearing the castles of Castile and the lions of León in the macuña (cob) style characteristic of colonial Spanish coinage. The irregular flan, typical of hand-struck cob coinage, results in partial visibility of the surrounding circular legend. The design elements are boldly if somewhat crudely struck, with the quartered shield arrangement clearly legible at the center despite the rough flan edges. |
