Reverse description Central device comprising the crowned Royal Arms of Spain and the Indies, quartered with castles and lions, with a small inescutcheon of the French royal house of Bourbon at the center. The shield is flanked on either side by the Pillars of Hercules, each surmounted by a crown, representing the Strait of Gibraltar. The circular legend surrounding the design reads HISPAN ET IND REX, with the Lima mint mark LIMAE, the denomination 8R, and the assayers' initials I and J distributed around the field.
