Obverse description Laureate and draped bust of King Charles IV of Spain facing right, rendered in the portrait style of his predecessor Charles III, as was customary during the transitional coinage of 1789–1791. The effigy displays the king with tied hair and armored drapery, occupying the central field. The circular legend reads CAROLUS IV DEI GRATIA, with the mint date 1790 appearing in the lower exergue beneath the bust. The coin's border is defined by a fine toothed or milled rim.
